The Gear – Garmin Products
Here is a list of the Garmin gear I am using for The Project:
I decided to stick with Garmin Products to have a complete ecosystem. I use the Garmin Connect app to track everything under a single pane of glass. I also use the Garmin TacX Trainer app for my virtual rides. * Buy the premium subscription, it is worth it.

Garmin Edge 830 GPS Bike Computer Bundle with Protective Silicone Case (Black) & HD Tempered Glass Screen Protectors (x2) | Touchscreen, TrainingPeaks, VO2 Max | Cycling Computer | 010-02061-00
My Review:
This serves all of my needs and compared to the higher priced models, does about the same job. I am able to create separate profiles for indoor riding and road rides. It allows me to auto pause when motion is stopped or when speed falls below a certain range. I have not experienced any issues with connecting to the other gear listed here.
Garmin Instinct 2 Solar (Graphite) Rugged GPS Smartwatch | Bundle with PlayBetter TPU Screen Protectors & Portable Charger | 2022 Outdoor Watch with Multi GNSS, Compass, & Heart Rate | Large, 45mm
My Review:
This is a great watch overall. It has solar charging, GPS and also monitors my heart rate and SPO. It has a sleep function as well as many other features.
Note – When not actively monitoring GPS and or SPO, it has a battery life of about 28 days. However, when you activate either of those 2 features, it reduces it to about 4-5 days.
Garmin HRM-Pro, Premium Heart Rate Monitor Chest Strap, Real-Time Heart Rate Data and Running Dynamics, Black
My Review: Great HR Monitor. It easily connects with my Edge 830 or my TacX Smart Trainer.
Garmin Speed Sensor 2 and Cadence Sensor 2 Bundle, Bike Sensors to Monitor Speed and Pedaling Cadence
My Review:
These are good for either indoor or outdoor riding and I have not had any connection issues.
Garmin Rally RS200 Dual-Sensing Power Meter Bike Pedals Bundle – Includes Road Cleat Protective Covers – Shimano SPD-SL Cleats – Power, Cadence, Left/Right – 010-02388-02
My Review:
These are amazing! They have helped me monitor my Left / Right Balance on the bike and helped me identify some disparities in my riding due to previous injuries. I was averaging about a 70 / 30 split respectively, and through some adjustments and changes in workout, I have been able to bring it back to close to 50 / 50.
They are well worth the price.
Garmin Vector Cleats 6º Float – Red/Black
My Review:
While the pedals do come with the cleats and cleat covers, it is always good to have some spares on hand.
Garmin Tacx Flow Smart Trainer
My Review:
This is great for my indoor training during inclement weather, or if I just do not want to get out and dodge traffic. Pairing it with the premium subscription has allowed me to ride so many different routes and enjoy scenery from across the globe. It has a built in function to monitor your power, as well as connects to the HR, speed and cadence sensors.
Note – The power meter function is basic and does not give you the amount of information that comes from the Rally RS200 Dual-Sensing Power Meter Bike Pedals. What I do is run my Edge Computer along with it. The drawback to that is the Connect app counts them as 2 separate rides and can throw off your stats in the app.

Tacx T1708, Trainer Axle for E-Thru, M12 x 1.75
My Review:
The universal axle that comes with did not fit my Trek Domane, so this was needed. You do not have to switch out the axels from trainer to road road riding. The drawback is that you lose the quick release functionality.
Garmin Index™ BPM, Smart Blood Pressure Monitor, FDA-Cleared Medical Device, Easy-to-Use with Built-in Display
My Review:
Great product. I use it every morning for my vitals and after rides to see how they compare. Easily connects to Wi-Fi and uploads to the Connect app.
Garmin Index S2, Smart Scale with Wireless Connectivity, Measure Body Fat, Muscle, Bone Mass, Body Water% and More, Black (010-02294-02)
